This week’s Brave Artist award goes to Yance Ford, who became the first transgender director to be nominated for an Oscar for his documentary Strong Island, which chronicles what happened to his family after his brother, William Ford Jr., was shot dead by a white mechanic in Long Island, New York, in 1992.
